“Since day one I had heard about CrossFit. How it is rigorous workouts and just asking for me to hurt myself. Well I had been active for quite a long time playing ice hockey and soccer, I fell out of it after an injury and never got back into it. I gained a lot of weight and was very self conscious, never wanting to go out always embarrassed about my weight. I then took a friends word and tried CrossFit out I took one trial class at CrossFit OSA and was hooked. CrossFit OSA has changed my life, not only how I look, but how I feel. I am walking with my chest out and my head high where as before I was slouching and very closed up. I started out at OSA at my heaviest 200 pounds and body fat at an all time high and now I am 170 and am in the best shape I have ever been, better even than when I played sports. I can do so many things I was NEVER in my life able to do. I have come so far since I started about a year ago and I would not be here if it weren’t for OSAs coaches Gary, Ant, and Neil with guidance on working out as well as nutrition and everyone else cheering me on saying I can do one more rep when I thought and felt I couldn’t. My confidence has gone up and I am more outgoing and social then I have ever been. Since I started I have become more educated on movements, nutrition, workouts and mobility all of which I knew nothing about. I’ve learned a new and better way of motivation. “Crossfit OSA has literally changed my life. In a year and a half I have lost 35 pounds, countless inches, and lots of fat clothes. But what I have lost does not compare to what I have gained. The feeling of being able to kick your own ass everyday and know that it’s making you a stronger, better person, is indescribable. There is no competition between others, but instead a judgement free family who understands just how important every rep, every PR, and every fail is. The sense of encouragement and family is like no other experience in life. Although everyone in the box that day may be there for different reasons, we all come there to do the same thing, we show up and do work. I can’t imagine coming home from work and sitting on the couch watching tv all night. I look forward to knowing my day will end with a feeling of accomplishment after my crossfit class, knowing my coaches pushed me to do my best. “I have been CrossFitting with Gary for over two years now. During that time I gained a few things, but I also lost a few things. I lost over 50 pounds in about a year and a half, ten inches around my gut, about five inches around my waist and two suit sizes. I literally had to purchase a completely new wardrobe with the exception of socks. None of my pants fit, all of my shirts are too big, my boxers were too large. I also gained some things. I gained confidence in my body, I gained a stronger immune system, and I gained a girlfriend. I attribute all three 100% to the results that Gary has produced in me. When faced with a physical challenge I used to shy away and back down, but now I tackle it like Barney Stinson (Challenge accepted!).

To get to this point it was not easy. Early on at the “old gym” Gary asked all the members to choose a goal for themselves. I wanted to lose weight, but it wasn’t about the number on the scale. I never wanted to be able to use the excuse “muscle weighs more than fat, no wonder I am gaining weight. I never wanted excuses. So I chose to have my gut measurement equal my waist measurement. “As my gym membership was coming to an end in late January I kept hearing more and more about CrossFit.  I didn’t know much about it only that everyone I knew who did CrossFit were athletes most of their lives, in great shape and male.  Being none of the above, I was a little nervous when I emailed CrossFit OSA. The owner, Gary, responded to my email right away and put all of my personal insecurities at ease.  He reassured me that CrossFit is geared towards all ages, athletic abilities, and certainly both genders.  He suggested I sign up for a free-trial class, which I did.

To say I was sore after the trial class is an understatement.  I realized that in all the years I had been a “member” at a gym, I NEVER pushed myself to the limits like I did in that CrossFit class.  The atmosphere was electric. The other class members were not only pushing themselves to do their best, but were also cheering me on as I struggled through the workout. Right then I knew this is exactly the push I needed.

I signed up for 3-personal training classes a week with Gary.  I began on Feb. 4th weighing 150lbs.  Through Gary’s personalized workouts and following the Paleo diet (suggested by Gary), 2 months later I am now 132lbs. and feel like I’m in the best shape of my life…and I’ve only just begun.

What I’ve come to realize is, Gary isn’t a miracle worker and CrossFit isn’t a quick fix or a 90-day fitness program.  Gary is an amazing and incredibly knowledgeable coach who will push you to your limits because he believes in you even when you may doubt yourself.  He’s always there with a “come on Tara you got this!” or a high five after you set a new personal record. And CrossFit along with a healthy diet is a lifestyle change.

I would highly recommend CrossFit OSA and Coach Gary. You will not regret it! It was the best decision and investment I’ve made.”

“Ever since college and the freshman 15, I have struggled with my weight and fitness. Over the years, I have tried not eating, commercial gyms, and commercial diets (Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers). Nothing seemed to work beyond the water weight pounds. In September of 2011, I started working with a trainer. He helped me change my diet and understand what I had been doing wrong at the commercial gyms-too much of the same routine. I managed to lose about 10 pounds. Several months after starting with this trainer, he decided he wasn’t going to do personal training any longer. I continued with the dietary changes but failed when it came to keeping the weight off.

In June 2012, I stopped at the nutrition store for protein and walked out with a new trainer/coach. He told me about CrossFit. I started working with Gary Sorrentino about a week later. I weighed 158 pounds. At first it was just personal training three times a week. After just a few weeks, I noticed a change in my physical appearance as well as strength. Over the next few months, I lost pounds while gaining muscle. My physical strength and stamina had increased significantly. I then started mixing CrossFit classes into my weekly schedule. I soon found a new passion. The classes became addictive. It has been a few months now, I have lost a total of 17 pounds and dropped from a size 14 pants to size 10. This would not have been possible if I hadn’t run into the nutrition store that day. Gary’s passion and dedication to his clients/athletes is evident each day. With each celebration of an achievement or strategizing how to reach a goal, he gets you to up your game and enjoy every minute of the journey! You could not get a better coach!”

“I started CrossFit with Gary Sorrentino in October 2012. I was reluctant at first but my daughter pressured me into trying it. I was afraid that there would be yelling and screaming and big guys dropping weights… intimidating me. I was wrong! It turns out that CrossFit OSA is a family. Everyone is ready to help one another especially Coach Gary. I am 47 years old and have suffered from many physical issues including arthritis, back injuries, and muscle weakness. I remember when Gary had to help me up and down, and put cushions under my back to support my body during class. Everything had to be made easier for me. Now I am able to do squats, burpees, and can lift more then I weigh.

I have more energy than I have ever had in my life! I have gained muscle, lost weight, and toned up… but most of all I am healthier mentally and physically! I no longer struggle with depression and am not tired all the time. I thank Gary for that 100%; if it wasn’t for his patience and hard work I wouldn’t have made all this improvement. I am now part of a new family… the CrossFit OSA family, and I couldn’t be happier!”
